Ear Dope: Rico Love

I was listening to my Ipod on Shuffle and i heard this song from 2005 "Settle Down" By Rico Love, for those who dont know he is Rico love is Richard Butler Jr., 23, who you would think from looks he was your average material-obsessed, thugged-out MC. In fact, in this opportunistic world of hip hop where crime pays, he’s taking a higher road to success. “People hear me flossing in my lyrics, but I don’t mention selling dope not one time,” insists Love. “I’m not downing people who sell drugs, but that’s not the only option.”
That kind of thinking makes his old man proud. “I’ve always supported him because his foundation is right,” says Reverend Richard Butler Sr. But aside from his “just say no” mantra — perhaps a product of growing up a preacher’s son — there’s a lot more you should know about Rico Love.

Like me you probably remember him showing off on the frantic pop single “Settle Down,” from the soundtrack to Usher’s 2005 movie In the Mix. He’s the first artist to catch shine on Usher’s US Records. But before that, Rico Love was earning checks as the pen behind R&B joints, here is a little list of his joints u might know:

"Throwback" by Usher (feat. Jadakiss)
"All Because Of You" by Marques Houston (feat. Young Rome)
"I Wasn't Ready" by Marques Houston
"I Wish" by Omarion later done by Danity Kane
"I'm Gone Change" by Omarion
"U Got Me" by B5 (feat. P. Diddy)
"I Bet" by TLC (was the song Chilli and T-Boz performed with O'so Krispie, the winner of their UPN reality show R U the Girl, and made the album Now and Forever: The Hits)
"Seen the Light" by Chris Brown (feat. Rico Love)
"U Make Me Say" by Q originally recorded by Donell Jones
"Baby it's You" by Donell Jones
"You Didn't Love Me" by Donell Jones
"Silly of Me" by Donell Jones
"Want It From Me" by Danity Kane
"Could This Be Love" by One Chance
"Everything You Need" by Nephu
"Smile" by Lea
"Read My Mind" by Lea
"Love Me Like You Used To" by Megan Rochell
"Let It Go" by Tenesha
"All I Can Say" by Tank now by L2
"I Wish You Loved Me" by Tynisha Keli
"Click, Flash" by Ciara
"Energy" by Keri Hilson
"Love Like This" by Natasha Bedingfield (feat. Sean Kingston)
"Sweet Dreams" by Beyonce
"Radio" by Beyonce
"Hello Heartbreak" by Michelle Williams
"The Greatest" by Michelle Williams
"Lucky Girl" by Michelle Williams
"Turn The Lights Out" by Cassie
"Barely Breathe" by Pussycat Dolls
"Angel" by Natasha Bedingfield
"Year of the Lover" by Lloyd
"Encore" by Pleasure P
"Boyfriend #2" by Pleasure P
"Hunt 4 U" by Teairra Mari (feat. Pleasure P)

Love may be a writer but his main focus, however, is to deliver a positive message to listeners. “I want people to appreciate wealth but understand you don’t have to kill somebody to get that,” he says. “As an artist, if I don’t let people know that, then the blood is on my hands.” And that isn’t fresh or clean. Check out his OG single "Settle Down" along with a New joint "Money Right"

Kewl Kicks: Illego Venomous Denimous

Illego Customs DID IT AGAIN!!! The Nike Dunk high’s revitalized, he used his creativity and skills on the embroidery machine to create the Venomous Denimous. With a denim overlay and baby blue stitching, these dunks weren’t complete without the addition of the heel pocket and snakeskin toebox/side panels. Tehn added with the tongue detailing and custom insoles has me drooling over my keyboard with my wallet out! Unfortunately, only 1 pair were made, and Illego Custom’s female cousin is rockin’ them. APHRODITE: the Lady Tigra

THE LADY TIGRA was one of the original members of L'Trimm--one of hip-hop's earliest, and most influential female duos (with fellow rapper Bunny D). The L'Trimm sound influenced everyone from Peaches to Fannypack to Gwen Stefani. The girls busted out of the Miami Bass movement and are best known for the infectious "Cars That Go Boom," an ode to sub-woofers. The Lady Tigra Following L'Trimm's split, Tigra returned to her roots in New York where she would meet up and coming singer/ songwriter and production whiz Jacob Bercovici AKA Mr. Sandwiches. Their friendship soon led to talks about developing an album. Signed to High Score Records in 2006, the Lady Tigra's new album Please Mr. BoomBox is a vivid mashing of the styles that helped pioneer her career and feels like a continuation of where she left off. Splitting her time between Miami, New York and LA, the Lady Tigra instinctively brings a cultural hybrid of sonic motifs. Not only did Tigra collaborate with Berko but she also jumped in the studio to duet with MC Lyte and gave Mr. Hahn of Linkin Park two different tracks to remix.

Her album is reminiscent of her work with L'Trimm--infectious with her cool, deadpan flow, which layers nicely over minimal, old-school production. The Lady Tigra is already pouncing into action and jumping on the Pinkberry craze. Her jingle "Sorry Ice Cream" (the company's signature song), is incredibly catchy with hooks that refuse to leave your head. The song has been checked everywhere-- from Perez Hilton to New York Magazine to Paper Magazine to the LA Times.

In 2007 she was a spot opening for Gnarls Barkley and Kanye West. Along with a new album release "Swithbalde Kitty", this year is proving to be that of The Lady Tigra.

Phasion: Rugby.com

I cannot stop shopping here they have the hottest gear ever ,the latest brand in the Ralph Lauren empire is very much at the All-American (or at least English-public-school) tousled-but-very-clean-hair end of the spectrum. The womenswear is flattering on lithe young bodies, especially those that look like they summer on Block Island and winter at Choate, but at the same time quite modest. Rugby offers suits and blazers polished enough for first-job interviews, and dresses appropriate for dinner out with Mom and Dad. And the sportswear that makes up the bulk of the line has the broken-in , rugby shirts are everywhere, please get on it!!! DOPE

Ear Dope: Colin Munroe

Producer, and singer/songwriter Colin Munroe’s from Toronto where he stumbled upon the local hip hop and R&B community while attending classes in film and philosophy. Before long, he was writing and producing for Canada’s premier urban‐music talent including Glenn Lewis and Divine Brown, when he was bitten by the bug to write and produce songs for himself. Influences to Colin’s love of early Van Morrison, U2 and The Beatles, while owing its production sensibility to Colin’s love of hip hop and soul music.

In late 2007, just as Colin was starting to generate some attention and Grammy winning super‐producer Dallas Austin caught wind of the project and offered his guidance, shepherding Colin into the major labels. Lightning struck a few months later, in late January 2008, when Colin leaked an unofficial remix/response to Kanye West’s Flashing Lights online. Within 10 days the remix and accompanying street‐video had spread across the internet like wildfire, catching the attention of Perez Hilton, MTV, Pitchfork Media, Arjan Writes, Discobelle and Nah Right. Most importantly, it caught the eye of Kanye West himself, who featured the video on his personal blog, included the remix in his Glow in the Dark Tour Mixtape, and is currently using Colin’s vocals in his international Glow in the Dark tour.

Colin signed with Universal Motown Records Group and decamped to Dallas’ Atlanta‐based recording studios to complete production and mix Don’t Think Less of Me. For most, this life less ordinary would be something to write home about… But for Colin Munroe, the self‐described “long‐shot kid with the clothes that didn’t fit”, it’s just another day in the life. Please download his mixtape "The Unsung Hero":
